6 Things You Need to Take Out of Storage for Winter

Although many of us would like to hang on to summer and autumn, let’s face it, winter will be here before we know it. Instead of feeling down about the cold and dark creeping in upon us, why not make sure you’re prepared for the incoming winter? Something you’ll need to do is to dust off certain things and take them out of storage, whether you have your stuff in a self storage unit or stored away in your basement or attic.

Skiing equipment

Finally it’s that time of year when you might actually have some use for skis, ski boots, ski jackets, snowboards and so on. It’s worth getting these things out of storage in good time so that you’re ready to hit the slopes when the first snow comes.

Winter clothes & shoes

Unless you have huge wardrobes or closets you will most likely have stored away your snuggly jumpers, winter coats and boots somewhere damp- and moth-free (a given for all our storage vaults!). With winter knocking on the door it is time to start dressing warmer in order to avoid those nasty winter colds.

Rake & snow shovel

A garden or driveway full of rotting leaves in autumn is no pretty sight, so make sure your rake is handy when you need it or feel like tidying up your garden. Also, when the first snow comes you don’t want to start looking for your snow shovel or have to go all the way to your self storage facility to fetch it, so make sure you have it handy when you need it.

Christmas decorations

Although some department stores and shops have made clear that Christmas is on its way already in September, many of us will still get a surprise in the beginning of December when we realise that the holiday season is less than a month away. To avoid unnecessary stress and to get to enjoy Christmas for as long as possible, get your plastic tree, lights and decorations out of storage before December and decorate your home with some cosy Christmas lights to keep the dark away.

Heater & radiator

If your house, as so many others in the UK, isn’t the warmest and your windows not the most weatherproof you might own one or two indoor heaters or radiators for when it gets unbearably cold and you don’t want to heat up the whole house with central heating. As the cold weather can hit you when you least expect it you want to make sure you’ve got electrical warmth at hand.

Winter tyres for your car

If you live in a colder, snow-prone part of Britain you will probably have a set of winter tyres tucked away in your garage or at a storage centre. As it’s impossible to predict when the first snow or frost will hit you’d better have the tyres at hand to avoid any dangerous situations on the road – or having to take the bus or train!

Looking for a self storage company in the UK?

Flexistore has been helping people in and around Aberdeen, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester with their storage needs for well over a decade, and we’d love to help you out too. We also offer student storage services, which differs from our domestic and business service described below.

How our affordable mobile storage service works

Our service is mobile, which means that we will bring a trailer with a wooden vault inside to your doorstep. You will then load it with your stuff in your own time and lock the vault. (Your vault will be locked and not accessed by anyone during the whole storage period – unless you need to retrieve something of course.) We will then pick up the vault and take it to our secure warehouse for short or long term storage. When you need your belongings again, you can either pick up them at our storage facility or we can bring the same vault to your home.
