FLEXISTORE – A CARBON CONSCIOUS COMPANY
Flexistore understands that customers are keener than ever to work with companies demonstrating their green credentials. Flexistore takes a positive approach to tackling and climate change and outlines how we are taking positive steps to tackling climate change.
FLEXISTORE VEHICLES
Land Rover has offset 100% of its manufacturing assembly CO2 emissions at the two UK factories in Solihull and Halewood. In addition, Land Rover enables their customers to offset their driving emissions for the first 45,000 miles for new Land Rovers sold in the United Kingdom. Each new Flexistore Land Rover will only cover 45,000 miles in three years of operation. At the three year point each Flexistore Land Rover is traded in for a new a new model to benefit from Land Rovers offset programme.
An example of part of the Land Rover CO2 Offset Programme is the support of two 7MW hydro electricity generators at Lake Yashilkul. Together these produce up to 94,000MWh of electricity a year (enough for 28,000 UK homes)
Flexistore trailers have no direct impact on the environment during their eight year life expectancy of operation. But we do accept the manufacturing process will have an impact and the Flexistore Tree Planting Initiative offsets this manufacturing process.
FLEXISTORE STORAGE VAULTS
The best environment to store your goods is in Flexistore’s wooden storage vaults. All our wooden storage vaults are manufactured and delivered to our stores in flat pack form to reduce the carbon emissions of transport. Once delivered into store, our staff builds the vaults on site. Our manufacturers only provide the wood for the vaults from sustainable sources.
Flexistore only operates from existing secondary warehousing; we simply require a large clean open space to store and stack our storage vaults in. We never have a requirement for new build warehousing and don’t use the alternative self storage system of building mezzanine floors and steel storage rooms as this has too great an impact on our environment.
FLEXISTORE TREE PLANTING
Planting trees is one of the simplest ways to offset our carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood as part of the process of photosynthesis, which allows them to grow. Through this process CO2 is converted into stored carbon, thereby removing it from the atmosphere and offsetting our polluting emissions.
It is estimated that each tree planted 'offsets' our environmental impact by 'breathing' in about 730kg CO2 emissions over its lifetime. Flexistore estimates there is a requirement for the planting of 41 trees each year to offset our carbon emissions of 30 tonnes.
Flexistore have been planting trees for the past eight years at Georges Wood, in the Pentland Hills just south of our Edinburgh Head Office in Scotland. The trees planted are mainly native broad-leaved trees such as Oak, Beech and Silver Birch. These trees will not only offset our carbon emissions but will improve the local environment and provide habitats for our local wildlife.
with Flexistore even more affordable.
