Wooden vaults? Are they environmentally friendly?
Our wooden storage vaults aren’t just convenient for you, they’re also an option offered with the environment in mind. All of the storage vaults we use are manufactured and delivered to us in flat-pack form before being assembled on-site by the staff at our storage centres, reducing the carbon footprint of transporting them. You can also rest assured that the wood used to produce them is supplied from renewable sources.
What about your warehouses, what impact do they have on the environment?
Even our warehousing options are devised to minimise any impact on the environment. We only use existing secondary warehousing; all we need is a large clean open space in which we can store and stack our storage vaults. New build warehousing isn’t something we ever require or use. We also refuse to take the approach of building mezzanine floors and steel storage rooms in our facilities, due to the effects on the environment.
OK…but are you Carbon neutral?
We’re so concerned about ecological matters that we plant 41 trees each year to offset our calculated carbon emissions of 30 tonnes. Planting trees is one of the simplest ways to become carbon neutral, due to the ability of plants to absorb carbon dioxide. Through the process of photosynthesis, trees absorb CO2 and convert it into stored carbon, removing it from the environment. We’re not vague about where the trees we plant can be found either. For the past eight years, we’ve been planting trees at George’s Wood in the Pentland Hills, just south of our Edinburgh Head Office. To provide habitats for local wildlife, most of the trees are native species like Oak, Beech and Silver Birch.
What can’t I keep in your storage vaults?
Now that you know our vaults are eco-friendly, your thoughts will be turning to practicality. Before we go any further, let’s just give you a rundown of what you can’t store in our vaults –
- Live plants or animals
- Paint
- Petrol or diesel
- Flammable materials
- Aerosol cans
- Cash
How do I arrange for a vault to be delivered?
The next step is for you to get in touch with us, via phone or our website. We can calculate how much space you will need for you items and then arrange a convenient time to deliver one of our secure trailers to your door. Inside it will be your vault, ready to be loaded. We can supply as many vaults as you need and we leave the trailer with you for loading.
How should I pack my items into the vault?
Not sure how best to go about loading up your vault? Let us give you some packing tips –
- Pack large items into the vault first. Pack beds and sofas on the ends to use the height of the vault, then fill the gaps with smaller items.
- Always pack tightly to prevent movement, and distribute weight as evenly as possible throughout the storage vault.
- Kitchen appliances should be clean and dry, and remember to leave the doors slightly ajar to prevent condensation.
- All small items should be packed in cartons. Use bubble wrap or paper. Ensure you fill and seal all the cartons to prevent the contents moving.
- Try to use the same size of carton to pack, as they are easier to stack. Light cartons
- containing fragile items should be stacked on the heavier cartons to prevent crushing. Don’t forget to label the packing cartons to help with identification when unpacking.
- Mirrors and pictures should be packed on their ends, bubble-wrapped and placed between mattresses and soft furnishings.
- The polished surfaces of furniture should be protected with dust sheets or covers, and when loading the furniture place the polished surfaces against each other with a sheet between.
- Dismantling items such as beds and tables will save you space, but remember to keep all fittings with the dismantled furniture.
- Maximise your available packing space by filling wardrobes and drawers.
- If you are storing in more than one vault, list the items in each, as it will save time if you need to access your possessions.
What happens once I’ve finished loading the vault?
Once the vault’s loaded up you lock it and it’s ready for collection. We can arrange morning, afternoon, evening or weekend pick-ups to suit you. We’ll then transport your loaded vault to our secure storage centre, where it’s free for you to access it. Once you’ve finished storing your items, we’ll bring the vault back to your door in one of our trailers for unloading. A simple, hassle-free service.
