Don’t Forget to Buy These 5 Things When Moving House

Moving house is no one’s idea of a fun day out, but at least you can make the whole process easier by preparing for the moving day and making sure you have all the equipment you need. You’ve probably remembered the obvious things, such as cardboard boxes, packing tape, marker pen and bubble wrap, but have you remembered to buy the following five things?

1.Vacuum Storage Bags

Vacuum sealed bags are fantastic as they will save you a lot of space and make it easier to transport your soft goods. You can use the bags for clothes, blankets, duvets, pillows etc. All you need to do is to seal the bags once packed and remove the extra air with a vacuum hose. You’ll end up with airtight bags that are firmer, feel lighter and are easier to move.

2.Peanuts

We’re not talking about edible peanuts here – although they would without question be a good snack for your moving day. We’re talking about those little polystyrene foam packing peanuts that are used to fill out empty spaces in boxes with breakables and other delicate objects. Once they’ve served their purpose in the move you can use them in several innovative ways, for example to cover the tips of pointy tools and to make a snowman with the kids.

3.Mattress Protector

Since you can’t wash mattresses it is important to keep them clean and looking fresh. During a move, your mattress can easily get dirty when transported in a truck, so make sure it is properly protected with a waterproof plastic mattress cover. You can buy mattress covers in different sizes for just a couple of pounds at Argos for example.

4.Labels

You can always scribble on cardboard boxes, but you can’t really take the same approach to furniture and plastic boxes or bags for example. The best way to go about is to get labels in different colours and sizes that are easy to peel off. Different colours are good as you can use them to indicate what goes into which room or what is delicate and what’s not.

5.Utility Knife

Also known as a box cutter or Stanley knife, this is a retractable sharp utility blade that is used to open difficult materials – perfect for a move in other words. So instead of using scissors, keys, a kitchen knife or something else to open boxes and cutting through packing tape and string, use a utility knife instead. It’s safer as well.

Packing for Storage

These five items are also useful when packing for self storage, whether it is for short or long term storage. We sell a range of different Packing Materials, such as small, medium and large cardboard boxes, archive and wardrobe cartons as well as bubble wrap and packing tape. We can even deliver these to your house if needed.

If you are packing for storage, make sure to read through our Packing Tips to avoid any damage to your belongings and to make sure you don’t pack forbidden items.
