Supports A Greener Future

We understand that people are keener than ever to choose a company that is environmentally conscious. It is important to us to do what we can to tackle climate change. On this page we want to outline how exactly we are fighting back.

minimal impact on the environment

We use Land Rovers to transport our vaults. Land Rover invests in projects that offset the CO2 emissions during the manufacturing assembly of the vehicles, as well as those emitted during the first 45,000 miles/72,000 km of their use.

This means that the driving emissions for all new Land Rovers sold in the UK are offset for the first 45,000 miles. After 45,000 miles, or three years, each Flexistore Land Rover is traded in for a new model to benefit from the offset programme.

A few examples of Land Rover ventures that reduce pollution and provide employment for locals include two huge hydroelectricity generators in Tajikistan, efficient stove distribution in Uganda, wind-farms in Turkey & China, a combined heat and power plant in Russia and fuel switch power generation in China.

Our trailers have no direct impact on the environment during their eight-year life expectancy of operation. However, we do accept that the manufacturing process will have an impact, but we’re trying to make up for it with our tree planting initiative.

The best environment to store your goods is in wooden storage vaults. All our vaults are manufactured and delivered to our stores in flat pack form to reduce the carbon emissions of transport. Once delivered, our staff assembles the vaults on site. We can also assure that the wood our vault manufacturers use are from sustainable sources.

Flexistore only operates in existing secondary warehouses, and all we need is a large clean open space to store and stack our storage vaults in. We don’t use the alternative self storage system of building mezzanine floors and steel storage rooms as this has too great an impact on the environment.

We plant trees every year

Planting trees is one of the simplest ways to offset our carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood as part of the process of photosynthesis, which allows them to grow. Through this process CO2 is converted into stored carbon, thereby removing it from the atmosphere and offsetting our polluting emissions.

It is estimated that each tree planted ‘offsets’ our environmental impact by ‘breathing’ in about 730kg CO2 emissions over its lifetime. We estimate that there is a requirement for the planting of 41 trees each year in order to offset our carbon emissions of 30 tonnes.

We’ve been planting trees for the past eight years at Georges Wood, in the Pentland Hills just south of our Edinburgh Head Office in Scotland. The trees planted are mainly native broad-leaved trees such as Oak, Beech and Silver Birch. These trees will not only offset our carbon emissions but will improve the local environment and provide habitats for our local wildlife.
