Moving Home? Lighten the Load With a Self Storage Unit

If you’ve ever been through the process of moving home, you’ll know that it ranks right up there with surgery in terms of the least fun experiences in life. Realistically, the best you can hope for is something on an unholy inconvenience that goes along fairly smoothly and hitch-free, though making it happen is another story entirely.
Interestingly though, a simple self-storage unit really can make all the difference in the world. So many of our customers have told us over the years that taking on the right unit at the right time prevented them from facing the kind of hair-tearing tantrums the average move tends to bring along as standard, so it’s really worth considering the option if you’re planning a move yourself.
Think about it:
1 – An Emergency Backup
First of all, if something goes wrong along the way (fingers crossed it doesn’t!) you’ll have yourself a readily available storage area in which to temporarily hold anything and everything that might otherwise be left in limbo. When the time comes, you’ll be so glad for this half-way point to be used as and when needed.
Firstly, it’s worth noting that there are so many things that can go wrong without a word of warning when trying to move to a new home or office…as grim a thought as it may be. For any given reason, you may encounter something of a delay in being able to move the necessary bits and pieces into the new place. It may need a leaky pipe fixing, a wall repairing or total fumigation after discovering a bug infestation – in any and all cases you’ll need somewhere to keep your stuff. Some opt for storing it in the back of the delivery van for a few days or some leaky old shed somewhere, but with a self-storage unit on standby, you have yourself a save, protected and wholly accessible emergency backup no matter what occurs during the moving process.
2 – Establishing Order
All home moves are chaotic, but you can at least give yourself the best possible shot at injecting at least some order into things by kitting yourself out with a storage locker. Trying to move 100% of your home’s contents into another property all at the same time is a recipe for disaster…as you may have found out in previous attempts. Instead, try the system of using a self-storage unit as a relocation ‘buffer’ to house the non-essentials while you get the most important stuff shifted and installed.
3 – A Good Clear-Out
One of the very best things about moving home is that it gives you the perfect opportunity to go through every bit of ‘miscellaneous’ clutter you own and see what you could really do with getting rid of. Put it to one side, pack it into a self-storage locker and decide a little later whether you want to keep it, sell it or bin it.
4 – Smaller Homes
Last but not least, as we’ve mentioned on so many occasions it’s worth bearing in mind that with a self-storage unit, downsizing your home doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to anything you simply no longer have room for.
