We continuously say that there are so many different uses for self storage, and that we have such a diverse client base. So we want to showcase this by speaking with a range of our customers, digging deep into why they use storage and why it’s beneficial to them.
We recently caught up with Stefan Skogh, Managing Director of Aberdeen Blind Specialists, who has been a Flexistore Aberdeen customer for 1 year and uses storage as an integral part of his daily business.
Tell us a bit about Aberdeen Blind Specialists…
Our family-run business offers people an extensive range of blinds for the home or office, and I launched the business in 2009, after having previously worked in the oil and gas industry. From the start, our main aim was to keep our operating costs down to a minimum so we could pass these savings onto our customers. This is the reason why we opted to work from home to avoid costly overheads, and enable us to offer good quality products and services at an extremely competitive price. We quickly outgrew this, and that’s where storage came in.
How do you use storage for your business?
Flexistore in Aberdeen is our core delivery point. Mike and his team manage the receipts and deliveries of all our blinds, put them into our storage vault, and we collect when required before delivering them to our customers.
Our storage vault is actually empty most of the time, as there is a constant turnover of items. Some people may find it strange that it’s empty, but this is actually an incredibly cost-effective and efficient solution for my business.
Why did you decide to use self storage?
We quickly outgrew working from home, so I had a choice to make: either commit to buying or renting premises, and hiring staff, or find an alternative option. I didn’t even realise self storage could be used in this way – it wasn’t until I spoke with Mike about the issue we were having, he understood, and came up with this solution for us.
Apart from the cost and convenience, what other benefits are there to self storage for your business?
Blinds need to be stored in warm, dry conditions to eliminate the risk of damage. They also need to be handled with care and precision, and be stored safely and securely. This is all achieved with self storage.
There is also always someone at Flexistore during delivery hours, so this minimises the chance of missing deliveries, or our items being left with neighbours or in “safe” places.
Ultimately, using Flexistore gives us complete peace of mind.
For other businesses looking to minimise costs in this way, what would you say to them about Flexistore?
For the service we get from Mike and his team, it is really good value for money. I was actually shocked at how affordable it was! I am sure that there must be other small local business experiencing similar problems with storage or receiving goods. In my opinion, this is an ideal solution.
